Welcome to my blog!

From x stitch I moved into card making - now I am playing around with mixed media! I am taking part in different workshops and with help from crafty pals, learning about different mediums and techniques. Hope you feel inspired to create after a visit to my blog - Happy Crafting!

Week 11 - Stars

Still out of order :)

A bit of junk journalling thrown in! The background piece is cardboard from an a4 pad sprayed with ink. The main piece is watercolour paper with inks and different colours of embossing powder. The fairy is black embossing powder and the stamps is Lavinia.

There are so many fabulous quotes about the stars!! This one reads.. when darkness is at it's darkest..a star shines its brightness

Hope your week is starting off well - we are packing up our base as we are no longer allowed to stay there - the plan is me packing up 2 different clinic and then maybe the gang is off for a meal afterwards :)

Destiny

An art journal page that I did when I was away with my crafty pals. I used the negative of a die cut and stencilled through it - I can't for the life of me remember what I used to stencil through it!!

Hope you all have something nice to look forward to (not including the weekend!)

Week 4 Building Character......or character building?

Out of order and getting VERY far behind...too much work and not enough play!

Decided to journal about how the media expect women to be and how I feel about it...

I will be getting ready for work as this is posting - it has been a truly horrible week and it isn't going to get any better - we are being taken over by another nhs trust - a very hostile takeover and we have to be out of our clinic in a weeks time.

The NHS being what it is we have to pack all our stuff too! There will be lots of tears as people are leaving and there will be redundancies, our team will be split up but we have to hope that eventually the 'new service' will be much better - if not our future will no longer be in Oxford.

Anyway, hope you all have something nice to look forward to this weekend

Dog of the Week

This is Lordy

Lordy has been described as having a very loving nature - he last raced in January 2013 having had 100 + Races - Lordy would need a home with older children or adults only - this is recommended as when he is feeding he needs to be left alone - no interruptions in other words he is "food orientated"

Moonshine - Aphrodite

The lesson for this was how to do a gesso transfer but I just couldn't get it to work - I think my gesso is too cheap!

I printed off the image and glued it in and went over it with paint. The paint was too dark though and covered the features so I had to put the nose and mouth back in. I used a flesh tint for the darker areas on her face and just felt that she needed stars in her hair!

I added my heart background stamp (she is the goddess of love) and used a free star stamp from craft stamper. I stamped in white but it didn't show up too well so went over it with a darker colour - it worked out well though as now it looks like there is white shadowing behind it.

I used inktense blocks for eyes and lips and watercolour crayons for the background.

Have you been crafting this week?

A couple of work in progress pics...

I recently attended craftathon 2014 - which is a group of crafters from all over the uk meeting up for a weekend of crafting and laughs :)

My last post was a shoe box project and every crafter who attended brought a project along. The main project was to decorate a chipboard clock which started off looking like this

I haven't completed my clock as I was conscious of all the fabby projects there were to do - I ran out of time for a couple of those too!

My clock so far..

I put gesso on first and then used dylusion sprays for the background. I stamped with different inks and have used a star die cut that I will stick across the top.

A journal page that is also in progress..

I stuck pieces of paper down with matte medium and used distress paints over the top. I sprayed some book pages with inks and cut them into hearts.. I have plans for some journalling and more but I just need to find the time!

One I did finish..

As always the weekend was over too soon but it was filled with crafting, good food and drink and excellent company - we are already talking about next years!!

Hope your week is going well

Shoebox Project - Door Hanger

Well hopefully as your reading this I will be away on a crafting weekend with crafty pals - sadly not all could make it but we will be thinking of you!

Kathy came up with the idea of a shoebox project - basically we all make something and put together the 'parts' of it for everyone else to make - ie, card blank, ribbons, papers. We will pass the box around - everyone will take a set and see what they create. Great idea!

My project is a door hanger. This is a picture heavy post!

I started by putting a layer of gesso on everything and used my gelato's on the tag.

I stamped my text on tissue paper and then put it on using matte medium. It reads 'Never doubt your creative instincts, just go with them and enjoy the ride'.

I put some colour down with inktense blocks and spritzed it with water - the colour wasn't strong enough

so I sprayed with some dylusion inks

I did the same with the chipboard flower bur had some bleed through from one side to the other - I forgot about the 'puddling' of the ink - oh well no mistakes in art...until I did this....

I sprayed it again and decided to use clear gesso to seal it - used far too much and ruined it so plan b

drew around and cut it out and decorated it  - it reads craft frenzy - keep out

the other side reads - gettin inky - come in

I started stamping on the door hanger - both sides..

I added my wings, my mad hatter and the tag

I decided I had to add another tag on the back as it looked strange without. I used a manila tag and sprayed it with raspberry dylusions. I found this sticker sentiment ' Some people, no matter how old they get, never lose their beauty - they merely move it from their faces into their hearts'.

I sprayed a doily with raspberry and postbox red and added Audrey Hepburn and some stars.

and the finished article - the tag is added with a ribbon so you can flip it either way and have whichever side you prefer - my oh described it as a mood tag :) In the zone and don't disturb or come on in and get inky.

Hope your weekend is going well!
